Do animals actually have rights?

Many careless animal owners disregard the importance of ethical treatment of animals. As well, many bistanders who observe cruelty as it is being performed towards these animals are reluctant to comprehend the severity of the situation and the consequences that erupt for these animals after being mercilessly abused and tortured. 

But what is considered animal rights?
This article depicts the conundrum of the animal rights movement and if what we (pet owners) perceive as caring and nurturing behavior is actually stripping these pets of their natural and instinctual rights.
